Covid-19 Handling Cups
A few weeks ago I was asked if I could make a device that could hold a cup on the end of a broom handle. A health agency worker wanted a way to hand objects back and forth with people who were attending the testing site. The goal was to stay out of reach of those who might have Covid19 and keep the workers safe from infection. They were initially taping cups to the end of broom handles but this was time consuming and prone to breakage.
I spent an hour designing the first prototype of this cup holder followed by a handful of revisions. The final revisions yielded a pretty robust design. It takes a little bit of finesse to get the cup into the holder but the cups are held securely. I designed a small notch in the holder to add a rubber band or piece of tape for extra support. Ultimately I heard that it worked really well without any tape or rubber band at all.
This was my first time designing threads into a 3D printed part and it worked out great.
Iām uploading the STL file for anyone who wants to print their own.
